Supreme Court Ruling:  A recent United States Supreme Court ruling concluded that there is no constitutional protection for law enforcement officers arresting you for traffic offenses.  However, most law enforcement agencies do not arrest individuals who commit minor traffic offenses because it is a waste of time and money and the political ramifications of arresting individuals for traffic offenses could be problematic.

Misdemeanor:  Traffic offenses are not civil offenses.  Any traffic violation such as a speeding ticket or moving violation are punished as a misdemeanor criminal violation under Georgia law.

Change in Law:  In 2012, the Georgia General Assembly discussed the possibility of changing traffic offenses from a criminal violation to a civil or administrative one.  As of February 2013, traffic offenses are still criminal offenses under Georgia law.
