The Details:Â
There are many great events if you want to stay local. The American Legion in Gainesville, Georgia is putting on a fireworks display at Laurel Park in Gainesville, GA. The Park is located at 3100 Old Cleveland Highway. The park will be open during the day with activities and use of the park for picnic goers with views of Lanier. The fireworks show starts at dusk, about 9pm.
What better way to spend the 4th of July than at Lake Lanier Islands? Whether you’re visiting or live in Hall County, this is a great place to be for the Fourth! The show starts at dark, but the park opens at 10:00am with live entertainment, games and family activities planned during the day.
A North Georgia favorite is at The Mall of Georgia in Buford, Georgia.  Come out to see the “Fabulous Fourth Celebration” and experience a great number of activities the mall has going on! Their fireworks show starts at dusk which is around the time most shows get started, but you’ll need to come early because the fun actually starts at 5:00pm featuring live music from local bands all the way up to 9pm. After the fireworks display, you can stick around for a showing of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 at the mall’s Village Amphitheatre on a 70 foot screen!
If you are thinking about traveling out of Hall County and looking for a larger venue, you may want to visit the Centennial Olympic Park’s 4th of July Celebration in Atlanta, GA. Â This is a free event and festivities begin at 6PM with live music. Â The fireworks finale is synchronized to patriotic music and is said to be a spectacular show!
Another great place to go see the fireworks is Lenox Square. They have musical entertainment planned starting at 6pm and their fireworks show begins at dusk.
Fireworks Safety:
No matter where you are in North Georgia, there are plenty of alternatives to putting on your own fireworks display.  Every year fireworks safety advocates warn about the dangers of putting on your own fireworks show and urge you to leave it to the professionals.
According to the Center for Disease Control there are 8,500 injuries a year relating to people using their own fireworks.  And, out of those injuries 70 to 75% occur within 30 days of July 4th. Children under the age of 14 have the greatest risk of being hospitalized for fireworks injuries. 7 people out of 100 are hospitalized every year and 40% of them are children. 10 to 14 year old boys make up the largest percentage of children who are hurt by fireworks. They are 3 times as likely to be injured than girls. Did you know that fireworks are responsible for $22.7 million in property damage every year and $100 million in medical costs? It is a staggering amount when you think of the numbers that way. With so many places to see the fireworks, it really isn’t worth the risk. Keep in mind that even though sparklers are legal in Georgia, they burn at 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit.
